Just noticed broadband NCNX has been moving slowly steadily
up

MCOM seems to have more volume and trading 10 3/4 to 12 -
looks like trying to break 12

What is your opinion?

Hi all. First full day away. . . going thru ticker withrawls. Couldn't resist a quick logon to check the scores. Noticing that telecoms that are getting lots of attention. . .but seems like only the ones that are broadband ready. . . especially cable modems. . .

Look at TERN. . .my goodness. . .how did we miss calling this one last week. . . I was alerted to it last Thursday, but was too busy to give it proper attention. Someone gave me the rundown on how they make cable modems for the European market. . .and that is great. . but what would have got my attention fastest is this. . . .the float is only 3 mil. . . and that is why it just keeps on upticking. Sounds crazy, but I bought the breakout at 39 or so today. I don't believe it will return to nothing. . but will hold at least half of recent gains [will take patience]. . .so when it makes further ones I will win. . . playing just like I play SIEB. I imagine ATHM Europe news is driving this. But that is ok. I am happier HOLDING cable modem makers than NOT holding them. . . look at GIC today, too.

The momentum plays based on low volume week fizzled out on yesterday's big market dump. I really didn't think that the shorts would reset so quickly this week. . .and felt we had some borrowed time. That call was incorrect. . . but I am still holding some at a slight loss, since they were near bottoms anyway. . with hopes of another short-cover rally and low float low volume mania. . . VERY risky move and I would hope nobody else does it. . . I play by the courage of my own convictions. . . but usually don't share some of the more risky moves like that one, due to fear of others wanting to pile on. Probably should just leave all momentum plays unsaid, unless we are all in BEFORE momentum begins.

UOLP sure was the right call. Email or no. . .it is an impressive little thing with that slow steady accumulation over the past months. You wanna know where I discovered it? Business 2.0 magazine has a list of internet related stocks each month [great zine]. . .and right there among the leading internet stocks was UOLP. YOLP?!? That was in mid-January when Cleveland/Youngstown was snowed in and I needed an airport magazine.

So later I did a quick DD and liked their business model. . .virtual campuses are very broadband. . .considering the windows with the live professors and the interactivity. . . and when I got to looking at their website, was blown away at their client list. I got the thread in very safely by calling the bottom at 2 15/16 about 3-4 months ago when I posted some of the DD.

I am also looking to take long term positions on a pull back of NWS on their upgrade, which seems to be helping them to breakout of mid 36's. . . was snatching a peek at tickers on and off this afternoon. . . . like candy to Rosie O'. . . Remember I have mentioned this one with regards to A.T. and T.'s owning much [most?] of them?

Lastly, I am considering a long term position in ALA [Alcatel of France]. This is a mega billion dollar global telecom provider with the largest network of undersea fibre optics cable. . . and a massive xDSL strategy. . . .this will be a slow mover though. . . NOTHING like TERN.

TELT took a big hit. Don't know why, but it may set-up a re-entry for us. . . William knows this one well. Also saw CNXT and BRCM.

ASSIGNMENT:

I replied to a post. . looks like 9726323. . . which has a list of cable-related stocks. This is a treasure map. Someone take the Cable servors and someone else take the vendors. . .

First, report back with any issues with under 5 million shares in float. . .then, any that have NOT yet broken out of their 200 day moving averages [that are also into broadband in a big way]. . . third, any that have just started breaking out this week. . .or have more than 5 times the 30-day average volume.

These three lists should give us a place to start looking for any that may have either been missed by recent momentum. . . or any that are suspected adds by fund managers. . . which I believe are doing most of the trading this week. . . into the most promising broadband telecoms.

I'll check back when I can on progress. If you have ever said, "#$d@rn, how could I have missed that?" . . .you will see the value in our sorting out the chaff from the wheat.

Kids are having a blast on our vacation. . .and their mom and I are making up on lost ZZzzzs. Will fill y'all in with details another time. See that. . . 3 years in the South and already I am typing with an accent. <g>
