Bench: Sometimes upgrades are used as a vehicle to dump shares into the market.

Cynical? Perhaps.

True? Definitely!

IT ONLY SHOWS THAT THE STREET DOESN'T THINK MUCH OF SMITH BARNEY OR "BLARNEY"!

Tell me about it.

Texas Instruments announces a new licensing agreement in settlement of the Hyundai litigation. The agreement will bring in $1 billion over the next 10 years. Pru upgrades the stock. I manage to buy more before the stock goes up. Shortly thereafter . . . the stock tanks.

No matter, both stocks (ESV and TXN) are great long-term stocks. These are just short-term fluctuations of fundamentally sound companies. We will be rewarded.
