Credit Suisse First Boston tech analyst Chris Kwak reiterated his rating of "strong buy" on Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (VTSS) based on his high expectations of the company's agreement to acquire XaQti Corp., which was announced Monday. In a research note, Kwak said he believes the silicon-based network-centric XaQti "is a natural extension to Vitesse's strategy to lead the way with high volume products in the telecom and datacom markets." Vitesse is a maker of digital integrated circuits that are made from gallium arsenide, which are speedier than silicon chips. The analyst also expressed confidence that the company's third-quarter earnings will be in line with his expectations. Kwak's estimate is 24 cents a share, and the First Call consensus is 23 cents a share. Shares of Vitesse lost 2 1/16 to 50 9/16.
