FWIW -- talk on the Yahoo-SGI thread says that Nightly Business Report states there are vague takeover rumors. Anyone have anything on this?

Well applixware runs on irix and borg viri. just reporten what I found at applix site. But applix has similiar pages for sun and other uni vendors. But I think their (applix) portal site may somehow be linked with IBM. But the main reason for the post was to vent frustration at companies that put up dumb complex web pages instead of kiss.
