Qualcomm, Ericsson close cellular antenna deal

SAN DIEGO, May 24 (Reuters) - Wireless phone equipment maker Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq:QCOM - news) announced Monday that the sale of its cellular antenna unit to Sweden's Ericsson has been finalized.

''We are pleased that our agreements with Ericsson are now complete and all patent disputes are behind us,'' said Dr. Irwin Jacobs, chairman of San Diego-based Qualcomm.

Qualcomm and Ericsson have both agreed to support a single world standard for wireless infrastructure with three optional modes for the next generation of wireless communications.

The companies said they also entered into cross licenses for their respective patent portfolios and settled a long-running patent infringement feud.

Qualcomm said about 1,200 of its employees in San Diego, Calif. and Boulder, Colo. are being transferred to Ericsson as part of the acquisition.
