As a Compaq shareholder I'm sorry to say that I had to do with Dell in a side to side comparison when buying a new 550MHz desktop for my friend. She consulted me on the best value and Dell won today. The deciding factors were #1 Dell offered a free upgrade to Windows 2000, #2 Dell offered Office 97 small-business standard #3 Dell came in $230 lower than Compaq with all other features being almost exactly the same. I hope this is not indicative of Compaq's overall pricing strategy.
