Questions to ask are: What is the difference in IS budget from previous year? Was that all just the cost of replacing the machine? Did they have to hire additional IS staff to support the NT machines? Did the number of calls to their help desk increase. Is anyone tracking time that a machine is in the shop? Sent outside for replacment of things like motherboards? etc. I think these are decision-making items that no one seems to ask when transitioning to NT. They just go by the Microsoft saleman. When benchmarking, you may not be able to go to a durect competitor. i.e. If you are a designer in an ad agency, you may want to benchmark the design group at a publishing house instead of a competing ad agency. It takes a bit of sleuthing to find the right phone number. I would just call them up out of the phone book and aks the receptionsist for the appropriate department. -Bill_H
