Dave [Protege]. .Superb post. We all appreciate your sincerity. And for a 21 year-old. . .you are wise way beyond your years. There were many "experienced" traders that got caught in that MTEI scam as well. So don't beat yourself up too much over that. Just glad that you have seen the error of your ways and are following a tack that works for you. Ultimately we all chose our own roads.

~protege...have to commend your effort to get back on track.

I "ain't no spring chicken" and sure got fascinated with just looking up my portfolio on the internet then ...ahem... greedy dabbling in penny stocks and moving right along 'til I arrived at MTEI also, THAT was a slam in the head (think it's called enlightenment is instentainious).....good for a tax loss is all and still have a couple others possibly on the future loss for gain list.

I would never have looked a thread/site further if it hadn't been for that experience and sure have been busy learning in the past year not to repeat those mistakes. I'll never be a brilliant investor but I've gained some common sense, do better for myself than my previous broker and lets face it. No one takes care of your $$$$ better than you do.

So I agree with all your observations, give you lots of credit.

My thanks to you also Rande.....have benefited a lot from reading and learning from your generous flow of information.

Sharon

I bet there are hundreds and hundreds of stories like this!

Great post, thanks so much for sharing it with us all. I think on these SI message boards filled with hypsters it is so easy to get taken in by greed. Its good to have a story that can be our anchor to reality.

I didn't get cuaght in MTEI but played the next biggest scam of the year - MIDL. I was buying MIDLP at $27 and later sold at $5, which was lucky cause 2 days later it was halted (and still is as far as I know)
