Sam you hit the nail on the head. Maybe HAUP is "a leader" in this field, but if they are, it is only because major players don't think this concept deserves attention at this time. It'll still be a while before HDTV becomes ubiquitous. And as stated in their PR, isn't the heart of their card a chip that they are licensing from TeraLogic? (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/990406/ca_teralog_1.html). What exactly is it about HAUP's card that can not be easily duplicated/improved upon by other vendors. It's funny how long hypers shout HAUP would get "exclusive" deals with Broadcast.com et al... Why on earth does any major digital video Internut company need to make an exclusive alliance with HAUP or with any other card maker? I can cook my Aunt Jemima waffles in any brand toaster, so why wouldn't I be able to tune in digital video on different companies' cards.---- Not Howie

SAM & BAM & AJ,

Once this frenzy is over (it will be) I trust we'll return to substantive questions such as you guys are raising --- what this (and related) technologies are about and the sequence of events that needs to occur before they become meaningful. But no one wants to talk about that now...

Apt to point out that by the time various data broadcasting capabilities get near the tornado, RF-digital extraction is more likely to happen near the processor than in a PCI slot!

.k

BTW - Intel has been all over Silicon Alley lately looking to support processor-intensive technologies. Hmmm .... extracting data from a TV channel isn't going to keep Intel up all night...

:))

Hi, Sam:

Don't disagree with you that the future of PC-TV is in integration. No idea what IP HAUP brings to software, RF or chip design but hopefully, it has survivable, licensable engineering.

Would give HAUP credit for carving out a niche, though. Wouldn't have thought they'd hang in there--especially in the recent deflationary era--but go to their Web site. Lots of initiatives underway.

As I've commented, the right strategic alliance(s) could secure HAUP's longer term position. Would like to see them push digital radio as well.

BAM

P.S. Just watching, no position.
