Nikkei weaker as caution spreads over Wall St fall

TOKYO, May 25 (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks drifted in negative territory in late Tuesday morning trading, as a sharp fall in Wall Street stocks overnight raised caution that global investors may reduce their weighting of other stock markets, traders said. At 0146 GMT, the Nikkei 225 average was down 202.32 points or 1.23 percent at 16,188.17. June Nikkei futures <0#JNI:> traded 180 points lower at 16,210.

''The tumble in New York increased downside risks of stock markets around the globe,'' said Masaaki Higashida, deputy general manager at Nomura Securities Co Ltd.>>
