Target Marketing or the Misfire of the Vanities... Oh, pardon moi...You were born in '56. That's right...I knew that! It's nonsensical to use an arbitrary date like 1/1/46, to tag the onset of a population spike...unless, of course, you have a very specific target market Audience, which you hope to Mine. Children of The Me Generation just adore themselves...and advertising/marketing to them relies on the exploitation of their Collective Ego Ideal. [I will check your links apres this post-]-The Boomers are those born between 1943 and 1963. The birth increase began prior the the NuclearWarGenesis, in '45. Don't forget that many GI's were getting married in '42 and conceiving children just before they shipped out. These GI's wouldn't see their baby's,[babies] 1st, 2nd or even 3rd birthday[s]. They were returning stateside in '45 and '46 and having more kids...and more kids... My point is, the phrase "Baby Boom Generation" is all about Marketing and not about Nature...if it must be defined as a Twenty year period, the years 1943 - 1963 Best Capture that Era. When Kennedy was assassinated in November of '63, we entered a New Era...the Viet Nam Era. It was the "Leading Edge Baby Boomers", ['42, '43, '44], who were just entering young adulthood at this time, who Created the Culture known today as "The Sixties". Their juniors...[their younger siblings], born 1945 thru 1958, digested and participated in the creation of both the Sixties and the Seventies youth cultures...Liberty, Rebellion, General Malaise and all. Each decade is unique. 1960 to '63 was a transition period. By '63, the tide had turned. I was born in the last year of the "Baby Boom Generation" Era, representing another cusp...The BoomerGeneration goes Bust, or as Marketing-ism has tagged it, enter "GenerationX". I am a Boomer-X'erCusper. You are a Solid Boomer... The phenom we call the "Boom" was more like Rolling Thunder, building to a cresendo. It was not a Sonic Boom. Thanks for the links!
