Neo - Have you seen the Cox report yet? I've only managed to see portions as yet. Loral and Hughes are both mentioned as having helped the Chinese. Looks like Hughes provided more assistance from the portions I've seen. JLA

Target Marketing or the Misfire of the Vanities...

Oh, pardon moi...You were born in '56. That's right...I knew that!

It's nonsensical to use an arbitrary date like 1/1/46, to tag the onset of a population spike...unless, of course, you have a very specific target market Audience, which you hope to Mine. Children of The Me Generation just adore themselves...and advertising/marketing to them relies on the exploitation of their Collective Ego Ideal.

[I will check your links apres this post-]

-The Boomers are those born between 1943 and 1963.

The birth increase began prior the the NuclearWarGenesis, in '45.

Don't forget that many GI's were getting married in '42 and conceiving children just before they shipped out. These GI's wouldn't see their baby's,[babies] 1st, 2nd or even 3rd birthday[s]. They were returning stateside in '45 and '46 and having more kids...and more kids...

My point is, the phrase "Baby Boom Generation" is all about Marketing and not about Nature...if it must be defined as a Twenty year period, the years 1943 - 1963 Best Capture that Era.

When Kennedy was assassinated in November of '63, we entered a New Era...the Viet Nam Era. It was the "Leading Edge Baby Boomers", ['42, '43, '44], who were just entering young adulthood at this time, who Created the Culture known today as "The Sixties".
Their juniors...[their younger siblings], born 1945 thru 1958, digested and participated in the creation of both the Sixties and the Seventies youth cultures...Liberty, Rebellion, General Malaise and all.

Each decade is unique.

1960 to '63 was a transition period. By '63, the tide had turned.
I was born in the last year of the "Baby Boom Generation" Era, representing another cusp...The BoomerGeneration goes Bust, or as Marketing-ism has tagged it,
enter "GenerationX".

I am a Boomer-X'erCusper. You are a Solid Boomer...

The phenom we call the "Boom" was more like Rolling Thunder, building to a cresendo. It was not a Sonic Boom.

Thanks for the links!

It is accepted in market research circles as 46-64. What else is there to add?

"Hello Boomers! You know what this is all about!

1996 saw the 50th birthday for Baby Boomers who were born in 1946."

This is somebody's page...no facts! It's cute.

-looks to me, like the implication here is that there are "boomers" who were born prior to '46...that's my interpretation.

What Happened the Year You Were
Born?

"Between 1946 and 1964, the United States experienced an exceptionally high rate of birth that we have since come to call the Baby Boom. In part because of their sheer numbers, the generation born during this period have had a profound impact on society and the economy throughout all the stages of their lives."

babyboomers.com

This one is Pure Shmarketing, complete with due patronization of the targeted demographic.

The last two links are more of the same...

I detest being "marketed to" in this way...I turn and run in the opposite direction every time.

It's just Marketing...not Reality!

C'mon Mike!

ps...but we really don't care, do we?
