How AMD will increase Speed Grades of K7.

Although I don't have any direct information
from AMD, I would assume that the K7 will run
upto 750 to 800 MHz today. I make this
observation because AMD has already demonstrated
a 1000 MHz freon cooled K7. From past experience
this summer the Kryotech K6-2 were about 25 percent
faster than the production heatsink/fan versions.
Since the K7 was designed from ground up to run
at high clock frequencies I would suspect based on
the deeper number of pipeline stages of the K7
(.i.e 10 for integer and 15 for floating point)
and the fact that the K6-2 has a 5 to 6 stage
pipe and the fact that the K6-2 is able to achieve
475-500 MHz speed grades today.
Of course the K7 is not in full ramped production
like the K6-2 is but I feel K7 can be shipped at 800
MHz in AMD's 0.25 um with aggressive transistor scaling.

AMD will not announce such high speed grades at
intro time. What AMD will do is introduce one
speed grade higher than Intel's highest offering.

When Intel announces the P6-III 600 MHz and will counter
the next day a K7 650 MHz, always being one speed
grade ahead.

Once AMD introduces the K7, AMD will not relinquish the
speed race for at least the next year.

The real concern from an invester is can AMD truly
develop an alternative platform that will rival
Intel's?
