Ships (as compared to ground troops or aircraft) are slow and easy targets to hit with missiles....

Large sums - very large sums, in fact - have been spent to defend naval vessels against this obvious threat. I would be curious to know what makes this new missile a so much greater threat than existing missiles like the Chinese Silkworm or the French Exocet, both of which are widely and easily available.

If it really represents a technological breakthrough, the Russians are not likely to supply it to anybody else.
