Write a big check also check back in w/us poor folks and tell us what you had for diner.:-) da DURHAM, N.C., May 24 (Reuters) - What will $1 million buy these days? Well, dinner with Microsoft's <MSFT.O> billionaire computer mogul Bill Gates and his wife at their suburban Seattle lakeside mansion, for one. But it won't be an intimate affair. More than 100 invitations are being sent out for a dinner Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates will host at their 60,000 square foot (5,574 square meter) home in late June for contributors donating $1 million to Duke University's fund-raising campaign. A Duke alumna and member of the university's board of trustees, Melinda French Gates offered to hold the dinner as part of the school's seven-year, $1.5 billion fund-raising effort, a Duke spokesman said. "We're certainly expecting more than 100 people," spokesman Peter Vaughn said. The guest list will include donors, their guests and school officials, he said. Last year, Bill and Melinda Gates donated $20 million to the Durham, North Carolina, university to underwrite scholarships for students concentrating on more than one academic discipline. Gates, 43, is widely considered the world's richest man, with his stake in Microsoft Corp. alone valued at about $79 billion. Gates's own college career was brief. He spent two years at Harvard University, devoting much of his time to computer programming marathons and all-night poker games, before dropping out to devote himself to computer software. 15:48 05-24-99 Copyright 1999 Reuters Limited.
