3Com Showcases Quality of Service With LAN Telephony, Layer 3
Switching and Traffic Prioritization Technologies
BUSINESS WIRE - 05:42 p.m May 24, 1999 Eastern

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 1999--At the
Internet Bandwidth Management Summit in San Francisco this week,
3Com joined thirteen other technology companies in the Quality of Service
(QoS) Model Network Showcase. This is the second Internet Bandwidth
Management Summit (iBAND2) to focus on QoS deployments for
converged voice/video/data applications, such as call center, medical
imaging and video conferencing applications suitable for enterprises and
service providers. In addition to participating in the showcase, 3Com
executives will also lead industry panel discussions on QoS.

3Com solutions highlighted in the model network include the
CoreBuilder(R) 3500 Layer 3 switch, NBX(R) 100 communications
system, and DynamicAccess(R) technology. The network showcase is the
most comprehensive effort in the networking industry to implement QoS
in a multi-vendor environment with real-life applications.

"3Com is committed to deliver QoS in our products as the critical
component to converge voice, video and data on a single network
infrastructure," said Kai Chang, business development manager for
convergence technologies at 3Com. "We are participating in the QoS
Model Network Showcase to demonstrate that convergence applications,
such as LAN telephony, are ready to be deployed in real-life networks
today." 3Com speakers at the show include:

--"Extending QoS from the core to the desktop: the need for mapping,"
Vasilis Theoharakis and Glen Gibson, Tuesday, May 25 at 10 a.m. PT.

--"End-to-End QoS scenarios: Mapping .1p to DiffServ and ATM QoS,"
Doug Sherman, Tuesday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m. PT. About 3Com's
CoreBuilder 3500

The 3Com(R) CoreBuilder 3500 Layer 3 high-function switch redefines
price/performance and functionality in high-end switching and routing.
Built around 3Com's Flexible Intelligent Routing Engine (FIRE), a
sophisticated third generation ASIC technology, the switch provides wire
speed Layer 2, 3 and 4 traffic forwarding and supports real-time
multimedia network traffic using advanced policy-based services. About
3Com's DynamicAccess Technology

3Com's DynamicAccess technology provides IS managers with the tools
to take control of systems and manage and optimize networked
applications, as well as pinpoint and solve end-user problems and
response time bottlenecks. DynamicAccess technology takes an
enterprise-wide approach to desktop, systems and network management,
working in LAN/Server, WAN, and mobile PC environments. These
solutions support 3Com's strategy to deliver intelligence to the edge of the
network. About 3Com's NBX 100 Communications System

The 3Com NBX 100 communications system is designed to allow small,
medium and growing businesses to consolidate both voice and data on one
network infrastructure as they scale their data/phone networks to include
larger and remote offices. The system provides a single point of
browser-based administration and management and delivers popular
features such as a multi-line business telephone set with Caller ID,
AutoAttendant, Unified Messaging, LAN/WAN connectivity, and
Computer Telephony Integration (CTI). With standard Ethernet
infrastructures and support for new Ethernet 802.1p/Q LAN traffic
prioritization implementations, as well as support for IP-TOS and DiffServ
for Layer 3 implementation, 3Com can deliver today's Ethernet-based data
and voice networks for small and medium enterprises. About 3Com
