Don, I think that you are right, but I also think that the hybrids will be a necessary interim step before we go all electric for the masses. The oils will have time to slowly raise prices as fuel economy gets better. Eventually people will realize that, for the car that is used to get groceries and other short trips, the ice motor rarely kicks in to recharge their batteries, and that it is an unnecessary added expense. The average car travels 14 miles a day, I believe. For the 2 car family I think that eventually there will be one electric, and 1 hybrid.

There is a huge market that consists of widows and other single women for whom electrics are ideal. I visualize a commercial where a woman comes over to pick up her friend for lunch and her friend says "just a minute, I am almost done" as she wipes the oil from the dipstick and slams the hood on her ice car. Her friend says " oh, I don't do that stuff any more". Better yet, have her sliding out from under her car in a pretty Sunday dress, standing her creeper against the wall, and wiping her oily hands in a shop rag and washing up with Gojo as she says "I'll be right with you!" Maybe a slight exaggeration, but it would get the point across.

Del

If they use our batteries...I love em too.

At least it will build our market up so that one day soon the cost of an entirely electric vehicle will be cost competitive with the ice vehicles. Those who wish to remain with ICE technology are doomed to extinction. By building Hybrids they cannot help but build the all electric vehicle market as well.
