RE:"The general view
among technicians, the branch of investing that believes that they can
predict the future action of a stock by the charts of a stocks price and
volume, is that if Intel breaks 55, the stock should be in free fall for quite
a distance. "...

I assume you are refering to the 200 day s moving average. This is a rather simplistic approach but widely followed.
In the last 17 years, simple backtesting shows that the time to BUY the SP-500 was WHEN it dipped BELOW its' 200 Day simple moving average. Waiting to sell at that point was a flawed strategy at best.

Interesting point. I was listening to the radio on my way home from work yesterday. On one business report a technical analyst said INTC was bad under $55. HOWEVER, Ashok Kumar was interviewed on either Bloomberg or CBS in the NYC area, and he said INTC was a buy in the mid 50's. I've been following him for awhile, and he's really good compared to some of the others. Also, Painewebber put an $80 target on INTC. I think the negative is a way to shake out the nervous ones before the move up.

>My own fundamentalist bias is that Intel is a steal right now<

I'm getting a little tired of Intel "being a steal." I wish it would go into "overvalued" status for a while.
