As a matter of fact, I have never had it in the way you imply!

RE: "You never had it so good!"

My husband used to say that to me all the time, and it was pretty hard to take in the face of his physical and emotional cruelty to myself and our child. He is now my ex-husband after the help of the police, a shelter, and the court system.

No offense meant to you at all, it just brought back some very painful memories of those years of hell.

On a more positive note, after staying alone for many years out of fear that any new man would be the same, I met the most wonderful man who is very kind to me and even makes a cup of tea for me every morning and brings it to me in bed before he leaves. We cook supper together every evening, and he even helps with the laundry. And sometimes when I ask him something like, "Is it okay if I go to the mall?" (the old habits of the former life are pretty engrained and die hard!), he says, "Carli, you don't have to ask me if you can go. If you'd like to go, just tell me you're going. We're not all like Buster!" (the ex...the nickname suited him but it really should have been Brutus--I'd have hell to pay if I left the house, even if it was only to go to the mailbox or out on the deck!)

So anyway, I'm a newlywed...again...and every time I read "Another good reason not to be married," I mentally add, "to Buster!"

I love this thread; it's very therapeutic, and I especially like reading Edwarda's comments. :)

Sorry to have gone on and on, especially since I'm not one of the regular posters here and only just found the thread yesterday.
