ah the Japan carry trade, a prime example of misunderstood bond traders and bond traders who misunderstood. 90% of the people who wrote about the trade, and close to the same percentage who had it on, didn't know what they were talking about. Starting with the fact that most of the variants weren't carry trades at all but spec trades with a carry kicker. The 'real' Japan carry trade didn't blow up until December, long after all the mislabeled variants left powder burns on their holders pants pockets. And it has been working fine again since February although probably time to look for the door.
