The new Vaddis IV decoder further expands the functionality of the efficient Vaddis(TM) architecture by integrating new key functions, enabling the design of advanced, yet affordable, new DVD players. The Vaddis IV is priced at sub-$17 in high-volume quantities and samples are available now.
The DVD market is expanding rapidly as players become more affordable and DVD titles are being released at a growing rate. The DVD Video Group projects that by the end of 1999 there will be 4,500 DVD titles available for rental and sell through. According to market research firm, Dataquest, worldwide production of DVD players is expected to grow to 6 million units in 1999, up from 2.2 million units in 1998. The associated semiconductor market will grow to $1.3 billion in 1999, up from $579 million in 1998, Dataquest predicts.
