Wireless data set for dramatic growth says
Dataquest

SAN JOSE, Calif.—The increasing base of mobile workers and remote
Internet users will drive the wireless data market in the United States from 3
million subscribers this year to 36 million in 2003, according to a recent
report from Dataquest Inc., a unit of the Gartner Group Inc.

Also seen as drivers of this market are an explosion of digital handsets,
low-cost short messaging services, e-mail and refined information data
services.

‘‘The main driver for the growth of the market will be messaging via the
Internet and mobile-originated responses,'' said Naqi Jaffery, an analyst
with Dataquest's Mobile Communications and Terminal Devices, North
America program.
