Thanks for the info. If I were to open a third account, it would definitely have to be from a supply different than Schwab or DLJ. The vast majority of the time DLJ has what I need, but occasionally they don't.

I'd be interested in hearing about other people's rankings of brokers (from a short availability perspective ONLY) and where these brokers get their borrows from:

Here's my personal experience:

DLJ: superior short availability (especially OTC BB) and Pershing is their source.

Schwab: poor to mediocre availability, BUT they will hunt down hard to find issues. I think they borrow from their own margin accounts.

Any other experiences would be appreciated.

fido had altif for me when the dog last climb over 10.
just cost a lot more money, got to do shorts over the phone
with person and pay full commission rate.
