Big K, Enthusiasm abounded at today's LA Roadshow. This is the first stir I've seen about Corel for some time. Hopefully this preliminary excitement is a "shadow" of things to come. The audience was 600 - 800 strong and expressed enthusiasm with the file compatibility and menu switching features. But you should have heard the ooh's and ah's every time Corel's Mike Marin ran the mouse over the "real time" preview features. Aided by Heather McAffee, the presentation was well received. The new "tighter integration" between applications in the Suite, and the Web, were admirably demonstrated. Corel has done a great job in "Focusing on the Suite." Interestingly, Mr. Marin refused to use the name "Microsoft," but referred to "other applications" and "other companies." The name Microsoft must be taboo in Ottawa. At first it was humorous, but then conspicuous. Corel should not be so timid about the "Goliath" out there. Coming away, my overall feeling is that WP Office 2000 is going to sell. For WordPerfect users who did not catch the upgrade cycles of 7 or 8, a "larger than expected" market may exist for this release. For example, I sat next to a guy still using WP 6.2, a Win 3.1 version. I had great expectations with the kickoff of Suite 8, which landed with a thud. Hopefully, now that expectations are flat, the opposite will occur. It's just a matter of time now. This product will sell. If Corel does show a Q2 profit of $.07, the PE will be about 42 and the stock should get the bounce you mention. If Q3 does produce $80-$85 M, this balloon's gonna rise. Hot-air's pumping . . . Scott
