Right. Oczam's Razor. Never attribute to "diabolical premeditation" what can be equally attributed to stupidity. Clinton could (or would) never be able to pull off what is being attributed to him in Yugoslavia on purpose.

First, he's in the socialist camp. Second, he is no Eisenhower in Europe. (For those youngsters on the thread, Eisenhower was a real character in American history. He had some impact in Europe awhile ago. You can look it up, as Yogi Berra would say. We'll tell you about Yogi some other time, kids.)

The Chinese and Russians have probably promised Clinton a Reinhardt Heydrich governerish over the U.S. for life when the time is ripe.

Dave1 I agree it would be very daring and very provocative but military is about might, not lovey dovey persuasion. The USA is in a war in Yugoslavia and needs to keep the upper hand and make opposition have absolutely not the slightest doubt about how this is going to end and who is going to win. Any flinching or dithering will see USA soldiers at risk. That means nailing opposition as soon as they stick their heads over the parapets.

Russia and China are backing Milosevic. Russia for historical reasons and China because of Taiwan, WTO, UN position etc.

That's serious enough for the USA military to remove them from the conflict or give them a very serious warning. No words or secret communiques are needed.

NATO need not be in collusion, just as the USA agents went into Iraq under the aegis of UNSCOM. Which was admitted. UNSCOM was the patsy. NATO won't be informed of everything the USA thinks and does in Kosovo. Nor will Tony Blair and his government.

To me it fits the facts and the total threat is not substantial though if there is a lot of finger pointing starting in the USA government over it and the 'who did what, when and why' comes out, then maybe it comes into the huge blunder category. But until the blunder is proven, I don't think the Chinese government or people will be satisfied to allow that it was a mistake.

Our contact in Peking assures us that the people she deals with are not government agents and they are angry. These are people at Peking University.

The 'military theory' instead of the 'conspiracy of serial and parallel stupidity theory' should be very easy to disprove. Bring on the map readers. Pay up the money. End of story.

A whacky conspiracy theory? Sorry, I'm too hard-hearted where my money is concerned to run my life from multiplexes. I like to be right. So far, so good. One can't indulge fantasies about GSM ruling the world [like Tero], CDMA being a fraud [like Frezza], Anyone can win IPR in court [dave3], markets will just carry on up [most people], the technical support level for the Dow is 10,000 [Ralph], Korea has disappeared [sellers of Q! early last year]. Mqurice is right every time!! [Though sometimes it takes 6 months for $80 to be reached or $200 gets shot through too soon]. Take it to the bank.
