It is my understanding that all shears in cash or margin account is held in "market name", this allows people to short the shears. You will need to call your broker and have him place the shear in your name or take physical possession of the stock.

My understanding - which may very well be wrong - is that depends on what agreement you have with your broker, whether you have opened a cash account or a margin account. I recommend that you ask your broker.

However, I think that internet stocks are not down because they are heavily shorted. I believe that it is mostly unwinding of margined positions by overleveraged longs on the individual investor side and nervousness on the institutional side based on TA. I do not use margin, nor do I believe in TA.

I recently went long after about 6 months of research and am trying to concentrate on GNET's underlying business at this point.
