late night brief follow-up clarification:

This '98 Aware paper presented only technical results - no proposals for acceptance. It is NOT an IPR filing. Patents are generally not mentioned in most ITU submissions except to specifically file a statement that the company believes it has relevant IPR and will OR will not abide by the ITU patent policy - that of "reasonable & nondiscriminatory licensing".

And fwiw, this Feb 98 filing doesn't provide Aware any claim date (in case anyone wondered) to generic splitterless since the idea was confirmably in public play much earlier.

Also, sounds like Lucent is within a few weeks or so of having their own (NON-Aware) G.Lite solution (ie., no AWRE licensing fees). Others to follow.

Industry tidbits - Paradyne hits the road in a week or two and will be public in June. We're probably looking a 20% float with a public pricing market cap north of $450MM (likely to double sometime between opening print and the hours/days following the opening). DLJ will PROBABLY lead w/ BBRS and Dain as cos. And if tonight's Trujillo and co rumblings were any indication, US West may be placing some significant orders for MVL and/or Superline, which could up the pricing ante significantly.

Also, Globespan should price in that timeframe as well and looks to be well received for their DMT solution.
