>>ECNs eliminate the need for MMs (MM stands for both MiddleMan and Market Maker) and day traders are essentially MMs themselves, competing with professional MMs and provide the liquidity to the markets.<<

Wow what a bunch of misinformed statements. First, who do you think are building the ECN's? Brokerages and market makers. Do you think companies just invest millions of dollars in ECN's for the good of the common folks? No, they invest so that it will bring a return to them. The stock market is not a charity by any means. Second, daytraders bring volatility first, and liquidity as a by-product. A daytrader alone does not have the resources to make the market in most stocks. Only large, organized groups of daytraders would be able to, but even then, their resources pooled won't be enough to make most stocks liquid. AND most importantly, they trade on momentum, so they don't bring liquidity to the market, just to specific momentum stocks.

In the future I would suggest consulting sources other than the backs of your comic books when dealing with the workings of the economy, stock market, or market makers.

At the moment the ECN's are taking share away from the traditional market makers... they are simply electronic order books, the most popular being ISLD which handles Datek's order flow primarily... you can see that outside of a handful of popular issues, ECN's often do *not* provide the best pricing and liquidity.... the role of the traditional market maker is still very much needed... (I am not a NITEr in the $200 cheerleading sense, but I enjoy trading the stock every day, and I understand from watching AMTDers, Waterhousers, and EGRPers clicking in market orders every morning that NITE *must* be making money hand over fist)

Why would a swing, position, or daytrader even bother to care what
will be happening 3 - 4 years from now? There's tons of money to be
made with NITE in the nearterm. 52 - 55 is a great entry point - even
if this stock then goes down to 40 after you buy it here. In a week or two
or three, NITE will be 80 again. JMHO, of course.

Subject: NITE ...AFTER HOURS TRADING Date: 2/20/99 2:16 PM
Author: FLASHROB Number: of 2549
why NITE... IS the future of after-hours trading...WORLDWIDE

1. NITE is now the largest MM on the Nasdaq, handling 1/2 the Internet Trades for E-TRADE, AMERITRADE, MORGAN...and 20+ other brokers.

2. Analyst at www.gomez.com (site of Internet Brokerage analysis)say that the ECN systems for after-hours trading aren't going to fly...BECAUSE limited liquidity on trading a broker's INTERNAL SHARES limit this potential and ALSO there are some WIDE PRICE VARIATIONS on the same stocks at the different after-hours brokers ...YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE ACCOUNTS WITH MANY BROKERAGES and even if you were willing...IT WOULD BE VERY SLOW AND CUMBERSOME to trade that way...

3. That being said...ASK YOURSELF THIS...

why do all these brokers use NITE now, when the market is open...this is the reason they WILL HAVE TO USE NITE FOR AFTERHOURS TRADING!!!

4. NITE is already the trader they use...AND ALL THE COMPUTERIZATION, CONTRACTS, AND ACCOUNTING ARE ALREADY IN PLACE!

Do you really think they're going to look for someone new?

AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE THAT'S AS BIG AS NITE AND THAT CAN HANDLE THE CROSS-TRADING IMMEDIATELY!

5. THIS WILL GO WORLDWIDE VERY SOON NOW...as NEW YORK IS THE WORLD FINANCIAL CAPITAL!

6. I expect NITE to be the WORLDWIDE AFTER-HOURS ECN,
I don't see anyone else who is this set-up to do it.

7. NITE has already indicated in one of their past news releases that they are developing they're OWN ECN.

get on board the NITE Train now...as soon as an analyst (not counting me) picks up on this...the NITE train will start to pull out it won't look back!

WORLDWIDE AFTERHOURS TRADING IS A REALITY THAT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!

NITE IS PERFECTLY POSITIONED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS NOW...and with a market-cap of about 2 billion, IS A
PRIMARY TAKEOVER TARGET FOR ONE OF THE BIG BROKERAGES...either way...NITE is going to HIT BIG...
and pretty soon I suspect!

Any announcement from NITE and the stock will go-thru-the-roof!!!

This has the potential to be the Internet Grandaddy of them all...

My final point:

I spend approximately $300. per YEAR on Amazon books.

I spend approximately $240. per YEAR on my ISP

I SPEND approximately $1-2000 per YEAR on computer
hdwr/soft

I spend approximately $12,000-$24,000+ per YEAR on my
daytrading brokerage fees...of which NITE gets a good
chunk...

No one gets as much of my MONTHLY INCOME on a regular basis as my broker, and thru them NITE...

How would you rate the relative value of Internet related stocks BASED on my yearly expenditure figures above?

It's a joke to me that Internet and portal stocks like an Amazon (who won't make any substantial earnings for years) have the stock valuations they do compared to NITE who is making great earnings NOW and has a greater
future potential...

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? I THINK IT'S A NO-BRAINER!

and just a matter of a little more time...before the
rest of the market - and let's not go lightly on those
ANALYSTS - catches on...THEN NITE WILL ROCKET!

I LOVE SITTIN' ON A SURE THING...there are so few!
