Walter,

I am glad to see SmartMedia in 32 MB capacity being shipped. The website you referenced has outlined the problems with backward and forward compatibility issues with SmartMedia.

If you look closely at the fine print this digicam offers 640 x 480 resolution for stills which will not be attractive to most digital camera fanatics.

I am looking forward to hybrid devices with CF slots where 96 MB and higher of memory can go a lot further, especially if you have digital video clips.

Walter,

Your dreams have been realized. A press release with Lucent and e-Digital and SanDisk all in one.

SanDisk to Supply CompactFlash Cards for Portable EPAC Internet Music Player From Lucent Technologies and e.Digital Corp.

"We chose SanDisk as our flash memory card vendor because of their leadership in this market," said Joyce Eastman, director of audio initiatives in Lucent's New Ventures Group.

The beauty of the emerging and competing music compression and security standards is found in the realization that flash memory is the final common denominator. I hope that CF and MMC become the de facto "currency" for this market. In which case they would be...

"the final common denomination"
