Schwab cautions internet investors.
Schwab ran a full page ad in todays Washington Post, "Four common misconceptions many investors have about online trading."
The misconceptions?
1. That an order is canceled when you hit "cancel."
2. The internet makes it seem like you have a direct connection to the securities market. "Lines may clog; systems may break; orders may back up.......a line often forms"
3. Price quotes are always the price you will get.
4. Buying on margin.
"If you plan to buy on margin, you need to know the terms of the loan. ...some investors have been shocked to find that if they don't meet the margin call, the brokerage firm has the right to sell their securities - without notification and potentially at a substantial loss to the investor."
A CYA ad? <g>
