Hewlett , UPS in Web document deal

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 26 (Reuters) - Computer maker
Hewlett-Packard Co. and delivery company United Parcel
Service of America Inc. [UPS.CN] said Wednesday they would
develop a digital-delivery service for sending and tracking
paper-based documents over the Internet.

The companies said in a statement that the service would be the first of its kind.

Under the terms of an agreement, the companies will bring together UPS Document Exchange, a
delivery service for digital documents, and the HP 9100C Digital Sender, which electronically sends
physical documents in a single step.

''The result is expected to be the industry's first solution that enables secure delivery of paper-based
documents across the Internet,'' the statement said.

A recent study done by marketing service IntelliQuest Information Inc. (Nasdaq:IQST - news)
suggests that 35 percent of the overnight delivery market will switch to the Internet by 2001.
