Tekelec Announces EAGLE STP Sale to Vodafone
Network Pty. Ltd.; Continuing to Provide the
Infrastructure for Australian Communications

MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 1999--Tekelec
(Nasdaq:TKLC) announced today the first quarter sale of EAGLE Signaling
Transfer Points (STPs) to Vodafone Network Pty. Ltd., an Australian subsidiary
of one of the largest mobile telecommunications companies in the world,
Vodafone Group PLC, based in Great Britain.

Acknowledging the benefits of dedicated STP-based signaling infrastructure,
Vodafone Network will supplement several in-service combined mobile switch
centers (MSCs) and STPs with a mated pair of Tekelec's EAGLE STPs.
Vodafone Network also purchased a lab model for network interoperablity
testing and certification.

With over 1 million customers and a global system for mobile communications
(GSM) network that covers in excess of 92 percent of the population of
Australia, Vodafone Network is the most recent entry into Australia's GSM
operator market. Three other Australian operators, Primus, Telstra, and
Optus/Cable and Wireless, are also Tekelec customers.
