I bought a little CMPD: a bone density technology new product... a lot of women my age are having this done.. FDA OKs CompuMedbone density test device MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif., May 25 (Reuters) - CompuMed Inc.(Nasdaq:CMPD - news), a health technology company, said Tuesday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave marketing approval for its OsteoGram 2000 bone density measurement equipment. The company said OsteoGram 2000 allows physicians to use existing standard X-ray equipment to conduct bone density tests in their own offices through the use of its proprietary software, standard computer and desktop scanner. In a statement, CompuMed said measuring bone density can take less than one minute to perform, and ''is approved for reimbursement by Medicare and the vast majority of third-party payers in the U.S.'' ''The exact price has not been set yet, but it will be under $10,000, making it less expensive than any other bone densitometers on the market, and they average $50,000 on their own as stand-alone systems,'' David Edelstein, executive director of the OsteoSystems division of CompuMed said in a telephone interview with Reuters. Edelstein said the company expects the OsteGram 2000 package to be on the market within the ''next couple of months.'' CompuMed's stock is up sharply on the Nasdaq stock market, gaining 21/32 of a point in price, to 1-13/32.
