The Network Associates/CSCO deal flies in the face of Checkpoint's OPSEC client
strategy. The current IRE VPN client is at risk especially if LUcent in NJ gets involved.
Network Associates has a vested interest in this play where CheckPoint has "too
many" competitive overlaps.

-- Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO- news) and Network Associates (Nasdaq: NETA
- news) announced today that Network Associates will become a charter member of
Cisco's newly introduced Virtual Private Network (VPN) client interoperability
program. Under the program, 'Network Associates' PGP VPN client software for
> Windows and Macintosh will be certified to seamlessly interoperate with

Mighty -- Actually, you have it wrong. Every day CSCO goes up, more and more folks that don't own CSCO detest JC and his "PR cronies". I'm sure the Street is very, very nervous about CSCO's prospects.....

Mighty, it doesn't take a lot of intelligence or foresight to post doom and gloom CSCO rhetoric based on daily performance. Before telling us CSCO investors how dumb we are to own this stock, look at its performance, over let's say even a one year period. And then look at it over a 2, 3, 4, 5 year period. Then figure out if I'm bitter.

Then, look at the huge network convergence market developing for the future. Unless you foolishly assume that Lucent/Ascend will own 100% of this entire market, than CSCO has excellent growth prospects ahead. I'm tired of reading posts that it will be either Lucent or CSCO. I own both (CSCO much longer) and I think both will reap tremendous rewards from this new market. Simpleton thinking states that only one can win and the other will go down the toilet.

With all due respect, I believe you have mistaken ambition for arrogance. I've done it in the past myself. I've changed my opinion about CSCO in the past 12 months.

I'm not saying you have to change your opinion, but personally, I see no need for you to ridicule an executive's personality.

It's a bit boorish if you are correct, and it's absurd if you are wrong. And in this case, you could be wrong.
