Chris - the first of anything is more expensive - people will pay up - companies make big profits early to help recover R@D costs - adding hardware to make a better product - that's bad ??? - also this announcement only tells us what we already knew -

Cris - EDIG was one of the first to adopt the SanDisk product over 2 years ago when they began developing the Lanier product

I haven't ruled out that the external read/write devices were offered on the cheap via Sandisk as a way for Sandisk to promote it's CompactFlash cards, however, I don't believe it is overly likely.
