As I said mark, it would not be enough for you to judge as one outside the body. Look at verses one and two. 1 Cor 1:1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: As I told you, you need to read it as a letter, cause that is what it is. Verse one clearly says that Paul is the writer. And look at verse two... Who whom was the letter written? Is it not to the church, the sanctified, the called saints, and all that call upon the name of Jesus Christ the Lord? So as such, it would not be unusual at all for Paul to call for unity. If the church is indeed the body, and Christ the Head, then it must not be divided, right? Would you like your arm to be divided from your shoulder? or your toe from your foot? Then as a matter of using the physical body as an example of the body of Christ, neither should any of the body of believers be divided. The Bereans listened to what was said about Jesus and they "searched" the scriptures to see if that was so..... so you are telling me that they needed to go outside the box and look at what those who were pagan, were saying? What makes you think some did not? That is where they came from. So they did make a decision. Some decided to follow some chose not to. <<Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. Again, here it says to not think for yourself, that what God says is beyond your comprehension to determine the veracity for yourself, so just believe. (Again, if you are not already a believer in the veracity of the bible, this is hardly compelling philosophy, or enough to make you believe) >> Here again, what does Paul say? """I beseech you, BRETHREN..."" Who is he talking to? Remember Mark!!! CONTEXT CONTEXT..... I can read this and understand why you think the way you do. what I am asking is can you read it from the perspective of a non-believer, and see why it is hardly a compelling argument? If a non believer picked up this letter from the post office in Corinth by mistake, :o) , then certainly I can understand he/she would be puzzled. And as far as compelling arguement, is that what we are doing? My orig. post was to Sam I am, he knows these scriptures and has turned from them, as far as using something like this to CONVERT anyone, you are right , the Cor. letter would not be the best choice to use AS A CONTEXT to make a believer of one. dan
