Thanks. Digital's search engine pointed to some pdf's that had more info than I wanted to know. OWW! My head hurts from reading all this technical stuff!

It seems that EV6 is very proprietary to the Alpha chip, has been retained by Compaq following the merger, is true 64-bit, and supports parallel processing. High-end stuff that will have trouble migrating to the mass market. (The machine it was shown on was $7,000).

I didn't see anything on implemention costs.

Given Intel/Compaq cooperation, this could represent a threat to expansion of DRDRAM somewhere down the road, but is still maybe two generations away from that. The issue of course is migration path for the RAM makers. Once DRDRAM is up and running as the mainstream bus, Rambus will have the inside track for further upgrades.

This is a non-technician reading, and I would appreciate any corrections from my more learned colleagues.
