The Cochin International Airport, the first of its kind in the country to be constructed by a State Government- promoted company, was inaugurated at Nedumbassery, 26 km from here, by the President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan, on Tuesday. Describing it as a ''splendid achievement'' of the people and the Government, the President said that it was the first ''people's airport'' to be built in the country with public co-operation as well as the involvement of the State Government and the Centre, and various agencies.
