Actually if you want what I would say the leader is in massively
multiplayer games, I would look at the game Everquest.

everquest.com

Yeah the graphics on the box and their site look cheesy, but
this game right now is the hottest out there, with over 20k
people playing at once during peak times. The actual in-game
graphics are actually more interesting looking.

Quake and it's ilk of multiplayer games (64 players or less at
once) will hang on for another year or two, but I think these
newer games that allow more people at once are more interesting.
