Synetic Announces Two Key Agreements
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (May 26) BUSINESS WIRE -May 26, 1999--Synetic, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNTC) announced today that its healthcare e-commerce subsidiary, CareInsite, has entered into agreements with two of the nation's largest payers, Caremark, the pharmaceutical services operation of MedPartners, Inc. (NYSE: MDM) and Prudential HealthCare, the health insurance subsidiary of Prudential Insurance Company of America. CareInsite is developing a secure, Internet-based healthcare network service which will link physicians to payers, pharmacy benefit managers, clinical laboratories, pharmacies and patients. The CareInsite services will allow physicians to access the relevant clinical, administrative and financial information of health plans and PBM's in order to simplify and automate clinical and managed care processes.
The Caremark agreement calls for CareInsite to provide its prescription communication services to Caremark, a leading prescription benefit manager providing comprehensive drug benefit services to over 1, 200 health plan sponsors and their more than 15 million members throughout the United States. Caremark will participate in RxInsite, a service which allows physicians using a web-browser to simplify the ordering and renewal of prescription drugs. Physicians can both write and renew prescriptions securely, and confidentially, online and have their orders reviewed in the context of the clinical rules and treatment guidelines specific to each patient's benefit plan.

Commenting on the agreement, Mac Crawford, Chairman and CEO of MedPartners, said, "As a leading PBM, we are continually looking for ways to improve the quality of patient outcomes while controlling costs. The ability to communicate with physicians at the point of care through CareInsite is an important step toward achieving these goals."

The Prudential agreement announced today provides for CareInsite to provide a suite of managed care transaction services to Prudential HealthCare. Steve Shulman, President and CEO of Prudential HealthCare, said, "CareInsite's goal of bringing physicians better and more timely access to the information necessary to provide patient care is extremely important. With over 6.6 million members nationwide, we look forward to working with CareInsite to reduce costs and improve patient care."

Commenting on both agreements, Martin J. Wygod, Chairman of Synetic and CareInsite, said, "We believe that CareInsite's services are differentiated by the physician's ability to order services consistent with patient-specific information and payer guidelines in order to reduce costs and improve the quality of patient care." He continued, "The addition of two of the nation's leading payers, Caremark and Prudential HealthCare, to our growing customer base is a strong endorsement of that strategy."
