The interpretation you outlined has the similarly fatal flaw of having to suppose that suddenly, out of the blue, God appeared. It's absurd to suppose that God always was.

Since God by definition is eternal, the absurdity is only with your statement. Last time I looked 'eternal' included the meaning 'always was'. Your own definition would still be stuck with the problem of infinite regression, which also results in eternity.
