Lucretius- You have been appearing since April 1998 on the Dell bull thread (perhaps earlier) with your warnings...Even with the huge sell-off and lousy performance in recent months, the stock is STILL up over 100% from when you first started spouting off...

In my book, that makes you usefulness pretty useless....

Had you FIRST shown up in January 1999, yes, I would give you due credit, and say that you properly call it...but you did not...given the facts...

Why should we listen to a broken clock?

LT,

I am not a dell fan but bought in today.

I got in a tad over 34 and wrote Jan 2000 $40 call for $5.

I doubt if it will go down more than 50% off its 55 high.

And it could easily hit over $40.

I do think that the soho PC market is at an inflexion point and will go to a subscription model.

What a lot of folks forget is that most folks when they are looking at say $30/mo for and e-machines PC/internet bundle with a 2 year committ compared to a $45 bundle from say Dell- with a 3 year committ will likely choose the Dell solution in droves.

An example is buying a car. When you look at buying it with cold hard cash one's reaction is to price the thing to death. When it comes to financing it - folks look at adding a whole bunch more options and possibly an upgraded vehicle - as the cost adders are spread over a long period of time.

And because Dell/GTW do not have the distribution/reseller overhead I expect them both to be able to offer such a solution very cost effectively whereas the CPQ/HP/IBM guys will have a real problem with such a model.

Regards,

Kash

some of us have made alot of money trading dell from feb to now. i'll admit that i'm down now from my recent trades but i wish these people would stop gloating about how they were supposedly right. just because a stock is trending down or sideways doesn't mean people can't make money going long. i've even made lots of money on orcl. this goes for the bulls also when dell goes back up soon.
