dan...a long call option can be used to write a covered call option against...as long as you have either a calender or strike spread..for instance, buy a dell 01 30 leap call...write any higher strike or any shorter expiration against it...you can always excercise if it is called, same as stock ownership..very common, good leverage if used as a stock replacement...best with ditm strikes and far expiration, much more comfort and stress...
