It has to do with a theory (that is somewhat bogus) that we are only a handful of individuals away from one another...Actually, I cannot now remember if one is supposed to begin the count with oneself, or the intermediate people...Therefore, all of us knows someone who knows someone etc. until we cover everyone...by "six degrees"...In the movie, a couple on the Upper East Side is taken in by a very intelligent street hustler who pretends to be their son's friend, and the son of Sidney Poitier. They are traumatized by the interaction with the young man, who is very engaging, but very unscrupulous. It was pretty good...
