Accepting is a different matter from being willing to learn from others...and even then, no one has the time or means to verify everything independently. I depend on authority for my atlas, my dictionary, the statistics I cull on social trends, the theory of evolution, the description of atomic structure, and many other things. I observe and deduce plenty on my own, but it is all necessarily interlarded with the other stuff, since the facts and theories that I learn (from the authority of experts in their field) must effect the way I perceive and interpret facts in front of me....No man is an island, even intellectually...
