Unless this application is already written, it's going be at least
a few months before any Java applications are finished. I guess I
still don't understand what point you are making. Is it that you
think that a company would be taking a risk trying to write an
enterprise application in Java? I wouldn't disagree with that, but
they would be taking a risk no matter what they did at the moment.
The MIS world is in flux today, so any action requires betting that
you understand the future. My take is that Java has enough momentum
to be a viable language/platform, provided Oracle can execute on
their expressed strategy (and I think that they can based on the
first version of 8i).
