Level 3 <LVLT.O>, Broadcast.com in strategic pact
OMAHA, Neb., May 27 (Reuters) - Level 3 Communications Inc.
and Web media programmer Broadcast.com Inc. <BCST.O> said
Thursday they had entered into a strategic pact that gives
Broadcast.com unprecedented access to bandwidth at favorable
pricing.
The companies said in a statement that under the terms of
the five-year strategic alliance, Broadcast.com would use Level
3's international Internet Protocol network to deliver its
audio and video content to customers at reduced fees.
In addition, Level 3, an Internet communications company,
will use Broadcast.com as its sole provider of Internet
broadcasting services for Level 3 and its customers.
Broadcast.com will carry Level 3's annual meeting of
stockholders Thursday in Omaha. The broadcast is expected to be
available Thursday on both companies' Web pages at
www.Level3.com and www.broadcast.com.
The companies also expect that they will "work together to
develop future products in multicasting and other areas to
enhance delivery of broadband video content and digital
streaming services by both organizations and their customers,"
the statement said.
"Together we will take Internet broadcasting to the next
level, as we can deliver high-quality broadband content at
increased bit rates to mass ... audiences," said Todd Wagner,
Broadcast.com's chief executive.
