Canal+.............

About: canalplus-technologies.com

Conditional access software MEDIAGUARD and interactive system MEDIAHIGHWAY developed by CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES are the leading digital broadcasting solutions in Europe, with a market share of around 65 per cent. Around three million set-top boxes in 11 European countries are equipped with these softwares.

CANAL+ is also exporting its digital broadcasting technology outside Europe. In September 1998, CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES signed agreements linked to digital TV projects in Israel (Unicorp's NewS@t project planned for 1999) and Brazil (with KTV Communicacoès). Earlier in the year, CANAL+ Technologies signed an agreement with a Taiwan-based operator. Through Media Overseas, set-top boxes using MEDIAGUARD and MEDIAHIGHWAY are also used in the West Indies and in Réunion.

Based in Paris, CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES employs more than 250 highly trained engineers whose expertise supports a solid industry-wide reputation.

ONdigital, the world's first digital terrestrial operator which launched in the United Kingdom in November, chose MEDIAGUARD and a customised version of MEDIAHIGHWAY adapted to the UK market. Their decision was based to a large extent on the solid results achieved by the technology in the two years since its launch, in France first and then in other European countries. CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES has also been contracted as principal systems integrator because of its experience in designing and creating digital broadcasting centres in several European countries.

The alliance signed last August with consumer electronics manufacturer Pioneer and US-based DiviCom (digital compression and multiplexing) and C-Cube (chip manufacturing) is another example of the respect gained by CANAL+ Technologies for its digital systems. This agreement, which does not preclude future partnerships between CANAL+ TECHNOLOGIES and other manufacturers, will enable its partners to provide end-to-end solutions to digital television operators around the world and notably in North America.

These solutions will be built around MEDIAHIGHWAY, which will be as easy to adapt to US standards (OpenCable, ATSC, …) as it was to integrate an MHEG-5 graphics interpreter for ONdigital in the UK.
