Douglas, in any such conflict, the United States is presented with the question of whether it is more analogous to the colonial rebellion upon which the nation was founded, or the secession that Lincoln frustrated. I agreed with George Bush at the time, who was against precipitous action in Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union, fearing the bloodshed that might ensue. However, given the primitive and chauvinistic character of Serbian nationalism, and the authoritarian stamp of the emerging Serb- dominated Yugoslavia, I can hardly blame the various republics for wanting to get out while the situation was still fluid. Comparing the situation in Texas with the situation in Bosnia is so ludicrous, I can hardly believe that you offered it up....

Difference: Bosnia had a constitutional right in Yugoslavia to secede, Texas doesnt.
