"Fooling around with alternating current is just a waste of time."--Thomas Edison

"There are those of us who sing, but there is none to listen!" --Nikola Tesla (who died poor and alone at the age of 87)

So accessibility will be the death of the desktop PC ... then from its ashes will rise the SUPER SERVER which keeps all these accessible, thin machines humming along their carefree, magical, graphical, web-driven world?

"... likely to force some changes in the business models" Good point. Great companies like INTC, AMAT and DELL will adapt.

It is my belief that no matter what devices come to the mainstream, INTC will be supplying the chips, AMAT will be making the equipment to make the chips, and DELL, will be selling whatever the consumer wants.

The free PC has been getting a lot of press. However, its anything but free. Excessive shipping charges, Excessive ISP fees, and excessive add on prices for more memory or additional equipment makes this anything but free.

Remember a few years back that slogan "Buy a Buick, and get a YUGO free" Well the Buick can still be bought, but the YUGO is nowhere to be seen.

Your quote on Edison, reminds me of the thinking of the villagers I lived with in ZAIRE. "Why would anyone want a telephone, if you want to talk to someone, walk over and see them." This kind of thinking is hard to counter.
