Opticom and Metrix Deliver Integrated Application Management
MANCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1999--Opticom and Metrix, both strategic partners of SPECTRUM, the powerful enterprise management platform from Cabletron Systems, today announced a partnership that delivers advanced application reporting as requested by SPECTRUM customers.
Opticom and Metrix have combined their technologies to deliver an innovative new module called Systems View. Opticom's Executive Information System (EIS), a suite of network management modules, now provides reports on desktop and server software applications through the use of Metrix's WinWatch intelligent agents.

Designed for managers as well as system administrators, Systems View delivers detailed reports on desktop software applications that are either running or installed on each PC or server across the enterprise. Systems View also allows Application Service Providers (ASPs) to perform e-business functions accurately and efficiently since the reports are available anywhere, anytime through EIS' Web-based reports.
Systems View's reports provide managers with accurate and essential application management information for use in managing licensing agreements, contract renewals, application inventory, and usage tracking. With this powerful information, system administrators and managers can now answer questions such as:
-- How many copies of a specific Operating System are running on desktops across the enterprise?
-- How many copies of a specific software package are installed and which desktop systems are running them?
-- Which desktop(s) are running a specific version of a software package?
-- What applications are currently installed on any individual desktop?
With support for more than 2,700 MIB variables, the Metrix intelligent agent can easily be extended to fit unique customer requirements, as well as provide individual user information on how applications are being utilized. In addition to the software and hardware inventory, software metering, licensing, monitoring and usage-related information provided for EIS, Metrix Intelligent agents for WinWatch can also support high-volume, policy-based software distribution and remote control for user assistance.
At Bell Atlantic Network Integration (BANI), the web-based reports will show all software applications running in the enterprise as well as version numbers, manufacturers, and product family. Planners and administrators will be able to easily determine things such as how many spreadsheet applications are running across the enterprise, who has them, and details on each installation, all from one screen.
